Survival Guide

Water Procurement

The human body can only survive about 3 days without water. Finding, collecting, and purifying water is a critical survival skill.

Priority #43 Days Without Water

Purification Methods

Boiling

Time:3+ minutes rolling boil

✗ Requires fire

Chemical Tablets

Time:30-60 minutes
Kills:Bacteria, viruses

✓ Lightweight

✗ Taste, shelf life

Filter Straw

✓ Instant, portable

✗ May not remove viruses

UV Light

Time:90 seconds
Kills:All pathogens

✓ Fast, no taste

✗ Requires batteries

Boiling Protocol

Bring water to a rolling boil for at least 3 minutes. At elevations above 6,500 feet, boil for 5+ minutes.

Building a Solar Still

1

Dig a hole 3 feet wide, 2 feet deep

2

Place container in center of hole

3

Add green vegetation around container

4

Cover hole with clear plastic sheet

5

Place small rock in center over container

6

Seal edges with soil

7

Water condenses and drips into container

8

Can produce 1-3 cups per day

Warning

Never drink seawater, urine, or blood. These accelerate dehydration.
